Greetings, my name is Socrates. I am the great philosopher of classical Athens. I spent most of my life in conversations with Athenian citizens, seeking true knowledge and exposing the errors of those who claimed to have wisdom . . . Well, to bad that I was not wise enough to keep my own mouth shut . . . How come? Because my persistent questioning got me accused of heresy, and I was sentenced to death by poisoning. That is why I am so ugly: not because of my conversations, not because of my lack of wisdom, but mostly because I am dead . . . To be honest -- and I must be honest if I am to abide by my own principles and ethics -- I was ugly even before I died. |
