Dead Battery
Willie Sutton was a bank robber
and escape artist who broke out of jail several times. Sutton fooled his
victims by wearing the uniform of a bank guard. He would dress up as a little
old lady too, hiding a sawed-off-shotgun under his petticoat. In gangland
folklore Sutton became known as "Willie the Actor." Well, Willie the Actor
would soon play his last roll. One day, on his way to a robbery, he was caught
by accident when his car battery went dead.
The cop thought he was doing the old lady a favour. In fact if he had
seen a man under the hood of that old Buick he wouldn't have stopped at all.
Like a good boy scout the cop was determined to help that old lady no matter
what. The only problem was that this particular little old lady was wanted
in ten states clear across the country, and had a shot gun strapped to her
waist instead of garters. And if that particular weapon had not fallen from
under her dress, going off, and shooting a hole through the radiator, Willie
would never have been arrested in the first place: apparently Willie reminded
the cop of his mother.
